This course is designed to evoke a sense of Responsibility & Respect. It is the Responsibility of every diver to accept & foster a sense of Respect for Aquatic Life & their environment.
We will spend 1-2 hours in the classroom, and make 2 dives on a 4 hour trip aboard the "Aquanaut."
Along with Responsibility & Respect, it is imperative to know & obey the rules & regulations that govern the sport of Spearfishing. We will spend a good bit of time discussing what fish, lobsters, and shells can be sustainably harvested, along with species in season & size limits.
Safety is of the utmost importance! You must know how to properly handle spearfishing equipment, and never be careless or complacent. All types of spearfishing equipment will be presented & discussed in the classroom.
We must be vigilant in keeping our reefs healthy. The primary target for this course is the Invasive Lionfish (aka Devil Firefish). However, we will harvest any species that are in season & of legal size. Trophy hunting is not condoned, and hunting should only be conducted with the intent of consuming your catch! Conveniently, Lionfish is among the best as far as tablefare goes.
The cost for this course is $250.00, and includes Instructor, Boat Trip, Spearfishing Equipment, and Certification (Any additional gear & tanks can be rented for the dive shop).
